Should retiring police dogs get a pension?
A former North Wales Police officer says retiring police dogs deserve a pension to cover their vet bills.
Alan McDiarmid and his "bestie" Buddy were introduced when a dog handling post came up in the force.
Both are now retired but Buddy has arthritis, and without insurance the veterinary costs are very high.
As his adoptee, Mr McDiarmid says any financial support would be "greatly received" after the years of service Buddy put in.
The charity Thin Blue Paw, which supports serving and retired police dogs, has called for them to be supported with a pension to help pay for vet costs.
