Parking price rise branded ridiculous and expensive
A steep rise in council-run car park prices in a west Wales town has provoked an angry response from traders and tourists.
The cost of parking in Cardigan, Ceredigion, for two hours has risen by almost 40% - from £2.90 to £4 - which is also now the minimum charge.
More than 2,000 people have signed an online petition, while local businesses were due to meet on Wednesday night to discuss the rise that they fear will turn away visitors.
Ceredigion council said the rise would simplify charges and ensure the authority balances its budget.
It also said the new fees were subject to a public consultation and blue badge holders were still permitted to use car parks free of charge.
