Aerial footage shows damage after coal tip slide

These helicopter shots show the extent of the damage after a collapsed coal tip led to a "frightening" landslip.

Residents in Cwmtillery, Blaenau Gwent, said they had to leave their homes and were taken to a leisure centre on Sunday night.

Blaenau Gwent council confirmed the landslip was a "singular wash-out of a former coal tip in the area" adding the tip was Category D, which has the most potential impact to public safety.

"We are working closely with Blaenau Gwent council and the Coal Authority to provide support to the residents and to ensure that the area is safe," the Welsh government said.
