Watch: Under the world's largest bascule bridge

Video shows what it is like to travel under a crossing known as the world's largest rolling bascule bridge.

The Gull Wing Bridge in Lowestoft, Suffolk has a bascule span 130ft (39.5m) long, 72ft (22m) wide and 115ft (35m) tall.

It won The Bridge Award for design and construction in March, was highly commended at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation awards in June and is now in the running for a Concrete Society award, external.

The £146m structure opened in September 2024 and is the third crossing over Lake Lothing.

A bascule bridge is a type of movable crossing that uses a counterweight to balance a span as it swings upward to allow boat traffic to pass underneath.
