Legendary pedal-power sound system in its 35th year

A bright yellow and green pedal-powered sound system named the "Rinky Dink" has been touring festivals for 35 years.

The Rinky Dink is the brain child of Danny Smythies – who has made his creation a feature of music festivals and peaceful protests since the 1990s.

The machine, made of several bicycles that have been welded together, is primarily a sound system but can also be used to power outdoor cinemas and household appliances.

Mr Smythies, from Stroud in Gloucestershire, says the lovingly painted, flower-adorned Rinky Dink is a "machine to celebrate life, to make people happy".

"You take it out, and you never know who you're gonna meet or what's gonna happen," he said.
