Video shows British man offering to be Russian spy

Video by two undercover officers posing as agents of Russia shows a British man offering to spy for the country.

Howard Phillips, from Harlow, Essex, is heard telling them "we could work well together" during a hotel meeting.

"Over many years, there has been a lot of discredit towards Russia and I think a lot of it is absolute rubbish," he said in the footage, which goes on to show the moment the 65-year-old was arrested in a coffee shop in May 2024.

He was found guilty at Winchester Crown Court of assisting a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act and will be sentenced at a later date.
