New MP speaks about mother's death days after election

Steve Witherden spoke about his mother's recent death in his maiden Commons speech, and dedicated it to her.

The Labour MP for Montgomeryshire and Glyndŵr was elected for the first time in the general election on 4 July.

He said his mother had kept how ill she was from him during the campaign, and "never gave up on me" even when he could not read as a boy.
