India launches long-range missile

India has test fired a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile said to be capable of reaching as far as China or southern Europe.

The Agni-V missile was launched from Wheeler Island, off the eastern state of Orissa, on Thursday morning.

Planned to come into service in 2012-15, the missile will be capable of delivering a single 1.5-ton warhead deep inside nuclear rival China's territory.
