Longer opening hours for Longue Hougue recycling site

Guernsey's waste recycling facility has switched to its longer opening hours for the summer months.

Until 31 October, the site would be open an extra four hours on weekends and bank holidays, the States said.

Deputy Public Services Minister Scott Ogier said: "The Longue Hougue site is a very popular facility.

"Items and materials being reused or recycled through Longue Hougue reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and extends the life of Mont Cuet."

Minister Ogier said more than 63,000 vehicles visited the site in 2010 and more than 11,000 disclaimers were signed, allowing visitors to take items away for reuse.

He said: "With the longer opening hours in place at the weekend and bank holidays, I'm sure islanders will find it more convenient, both for dropping off and collecting items that can be reused."

A full list of items that can be accepted at the recycling facility are available on the States website, external.
