Guernsey volunteers have sent more than 25,000 knitted items to Ukraine since 2022

More than 25,000 hand-knitted items have been sent to Ukraine from Guernsey since 2022, a charity says.

Volunteers have been knitting baby hats and blankets for the charity Stand with Ukraine.

Kay Rawlins-Duquemin, from the charity, said the results of newborn baby hat appeal had been greatly appreciated by people who had received them.

"The heartfelt messages that we're getting from them [is] they just can't thank us enough, really," she said.

Ms Rawlins-Duquemin said the charity had been sent photos of "mums in maternity units, wearing the baby garments and wrapped in our blankets".

She said they knew items at one location had been used after a generator was damaged, and "they used our garments to keep their babies warm until they managed to get another generator in operation".
