Two arrests in Isle of Man drink-drive campaign

Two island motorists have been arrested and charged as part of a Christmas campaign to stop drink-driving.

Manx police said in the first two weeks of the festive clampdown, more than 150 vehicles have been stopped.

The Christmas campaign is a joint initiative between the infrastructure department and the police.

Road safety manager Gordon Edwards said: "We are encouraging people to catch a late bus, book a taxi or allocate a designated driver."

The constabulary warned that drivers found over the limit could face a fine of up to £5,000, a driving ban and a criminal record.

Posters warning of the penalties are being displayed in restaurants and pubs across the Isle of Man.

The police have warned that any offenders will be "fast-tracked" through the island's courts.

Insp Terry Stephen said: "Any person arrested and charged will either be kept in police custody overnight or bailed to attend court the following day."
