Drink-drivers in Isle of Man banned from the roads

Seven people in the Isle of Man have been banned from the road for up to three years after being caught drinking and driving during the festive period.

Figures show a 46% rise in the number of arrests for drinking and driving - from 13 in 2011 to 19 in 2012.

The statistics also show a 25% drop in the number of drivers stopped because, police said, of "hazardous road conditions caused by flooding".

Road safety manager Gordon Edwards said the numbers were disappointing.

He added: "More drink-driving arrests have occurred this year despite the campaign giving details of the late buses and taxis.

"There are, so far, seven drivers who have been brought before the courts who now wished they'd heeded this message."

The Isle of Man Constabulary's anti drinking and driving campaign began at the end of November.
