Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man work together on new laws

Members of the Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man health authorities met on Monday to discuss ways of working together

Health ministers from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man will work together on new legislation.

Jersey's Health Minister Deputy Anne Pryke said a tri-island meeting held on Monday was "a great success".

She said the three islands would work together on three new laws to save time and resources and to be more consistent.

Deputy Pryke said the laws are on the themes of road accidents, mental health capacity and medicines.

She said: "We all thought this was a highly successful, valuable meeting and were pleased to be able to give time to issues which concern us all.

"I look forward to meeting my colleagues from both Guernsey and the Isle of Man in early 2013 to continue our discussions and see how we can continue to assist each other as we tackle common issues."

Guernsey's Health and Social Services Minister Deputy Hunter Adam said it was important to have standards that were appropriate to an island situation.

He said: "I found it extremely useful sitting down and talking to two other islands about how similar our problems are and how we could exchange information and work together in certain areas."
