Snails race in slow championships

  • Published
    17 August 2011

When you think of a race, we'd forgive you for thinking speed, agility and competitive spirit.

Not here in France, where the annual World Snail Racing Championships have taken place.

The event has been going for over 40 years - and it's not just the glory of winning that the snails are racing for...

The slowest competitors are eaten when the race is over!

A woman with brown hair plaited over her shoulder, is wearing a black shirt and shorts and is smiling at the camera. She is standing next to a life-size cake replica of Shrek. Shrek looks as he does in the film series - with green skin and long ears and is wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and brown patterned vest.
