No magic for this fancy dress witch, just loads of mud! She was one of around 300 people taking part in the annual Maldon Mud Race on Sunday.

The race involves running about 500 yards across the muddy bed of the River Blackwater in Essex, England.

It happens during low tide when the water is low enough for competitors to run - or crawl! - safely across the river.

The race first started back in 1973 when a local man was challenged to put on a tuxedo to serve a meal on the riverbank. This later turned into a race across the river and back again.

Many people taking part raise money for charity and there's even a prize for best fancy dress.

Muddily ever after - these two competitors came dressed as bride and groom!

There was no clowning around here, as this racer helped another to the finish line.

After the race was over, it was time to shower and wash off all that mud!
