What is the periodic table?

150 years ago the periodic table was a massive step forward for science. And today it still helps us make sense of the world around us.

Everything is made up of 'elements' such as oxygen, gold and aluminium.

The periodic table is a system for arranging these chemical elements and putting similar ones together.

It means we can see everything we have discovered so far, and where there are gaps, what is still to be discovered in the future!
