It's one of the most famous sports shows on TV, and for the last 25 years it's been hosted by the same person.

Now the BBC have revealed who will be replacing lead presenter Gary Lineker, who announced he would be leaving the show in November.

Rather than just one person taking up the role, presenting will be shared between three: Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan.

The new team will start at the beginning of the 2025-2026 season.

The first edition of Match of the Day was broadcast on BBC Two on 22nd August 1964.

Since it started, it has been the BBC's main round-up of all the goals in the top division of English football each week.

Former England striker Gary Lineker started on the programme as a guest but became the fifth main host of the show in 1999.

In November 2024, the BBC announced Gary would be "stepping down from hosting Match of the Day at the end of this season" but that he would carry on being part of the channel's FA Cup and World Cup coverage.

When it comes to the new team, many sports fans will recognise their faces.

Gabby Logan is a well-known sports presenter on the BBC and has presented Match of the Day before - along with everything from the World Cup, to the Olympic Games, to the Six Nations.

Kelly Cates has presented football for many years on Sky Sports.

And Mark Chapman has been the main presenter of Match of the Day 2, covering Sunday matches since 2013.
