After losing their opening match against France, England knew that another loss against the Netherlands could see them knocked out of the tournament.

But the defending champions got off to a great start and didn't have to wait long for their first goal.

Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton picked out Alessia Russo with a stunning ball, who slipped it to Lauren James.

The Chelsea forward then drilled the ball into the right corner from the edge of the box to put the Lionesses 1-0 ahead.

Just before half-time Georgia Stanway double England's lead with a low and hard strike into the bottom corner of the goal.

In the second half, things got even better for England.

Lauren James fired in her second goal of the game, before Ella Toone added a fourth eight minutes later, meaning that England finished the game with a thumping 4-0 win over the Netherlands.

After the match, striker Ella Toone explained how much the result meant to the team.

"It felt amazing. It's one we can definitely be proud of. It was a proper English display.

"We needed that. We should be proud of ourselves. We knew we had it in us. It should be a performance that we should be really proud of," Toone said.

After also losing their opening game, Wales knew that they needed a win or a draw against France to give them a better chance of staying in the tournament.

However, they got off to a difficult start as striker Clara Mateo volleyed France ahead in the eighth minute.

But their lead didn't last long as Wales' record cap holder and goal scorer Jess Fishlock equalised just five minutes later.

It was a huge moment, as it was Wales' first ever goal at a major tournament.

Fishlock also became the oldest women to score at the European Championships at the age of 38 years and 176 days.

France retook the lead just before half-time with a penalty before two goals in the second half sealed a 4-1 win for France.

The result means that Wales are currently sat bottom of Group D with no points from their first two games.

However, Wales can still qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2025, heading into their final group game against England this weekend.

For Wales to progress, they will require a huge win against the Lionesses, beating them by a four goals, and France would also have to beat the Netherlands on Sunday.

England face Wales in their final group match in the Swiss city of St Gallen this Sunday at 8pm UK time.

For the Lionesses, their result against the Netherlands means that any win against Wales will qualify England for the quarter-finals.
