It's tree-mendous news for forest fans

Do you have a forest or woodland nearby that you like to walk in?

You might not, but that's something that a charity called the National Trust is working to fix.

This winter, the National Trust will be planting tens of thousands of new trees across lots of areas in England, mostly on sites that they own.

The charity said almost 416,000 trees will be planted by the end of March 2025.

This will create new woodland that would cover 800 football pitches!

Not everyone has a woodland near them, but that could change

The National Trust has been given money by the UK government to start these 20 planting projects across England, in counties including Devon, Gloucestershire and Yorkshire.

John Deakin, the National Trust's head of trees and woodland, said that the project aims to "ensure that more people have opportunities to connect with nature close to where they live, something we all need."

Mr Deakin says that this is a key part of the charity's promise to plant and establish 20 million trees by 2030.

It's hoped that these trees will provide more woodlands closer to people living in towns and cities - as well as helping to tackle climate change.
