Diamond technology lab studying viruses

A science lab in Oxfordshire that uses special diamond technology is to become a world centre for studying viruses that cause serious diseases.

The Diamond Light Source facility uses diamond laser technology to look at viruses - in 10,000 times more detail than a regular microscope.

Scientists there have already helped doctors understand the virus responsible for hand, foot and mouth, which affects more than two million children in Asia.

Now they have been given permission to work on the viruses responsible for AIDS, hepatitis and the flu.
