Hundreds take ice bath at Tokyo shrine

Hundreds of people have gathered in Tokyo, Japan, to take an icy dip as part of a 61 year tradition called the Shinto ritual.

Men and women ran around the Teppozu Inari shrine before plunging into ice cold water.

People said prayers and chanted while taking their chilly bath.

The Shinto ritual is said to purify the soul and bring good health in the New Year.
