Getting pet tortoises ready for winter hibernation

Pet owners in Bristol have been getting their tortoises ready for hibernation by taking them to the vets for a winter weigh-in.

Hibernation is a long period of deep sleep that helps animals to survive winter - when food can be harder to find.

These tortoises are having a check-up to make sure they're healthy enough, and pet owners are aware of what to do.

In the wild, tortoises would normally sleep for around two to 12 weeks, but some people keep them in hibernation for much longer, which can be very harmful for them.

Have a watch of Naz's report to find out how the big winter weigh-in went for tortoises Fred and Alfie.
