Schiaparelli mission to land on Mars: Five things you should know

The Schiaparelli lander is set to touch down on Mars on Wednesday.

It's the first European Space Agency probe in nearly 13 years to try to make contact with the Red Planet.

Schiaparelli is designed to test out the landing system that could be used for a future missions.

The satellite that took it there, which it has separated from, will study the gas around Mars to look for clues to past or present life.
