Young musicians show their skills at music workshops

Learning a new instrument can be expensive, and for many pupils, lessons at school are the only opportunity to get involved with music.

But a report published by Ofsted in 2023 found that not all pupils were given the same amount of time to learn music, and that there's a divide between children whose families can afford to pay for music lessons and those who can't.

Young Sounds UK is a charity that gives free instruments and lessons to young musicians who might normally face difficulties accessing them.

They say extra government funding means they can offer more workshops and sessions in England, reaching up to 1,000 young people over the next four years.

Emma-Louise went to meet some of the kids taking part.
