Essex have signed former Australia international fast bowler Shaun Tait for this season's T20 Blast.
The 31-year-old, whose last Australia cap came in March 2011, previously had a Twenty20 spell with Essex in 2013.
Tait most recently appeared in the Big Bash League for Adelaide Strikers, helping his side reach the semi-finals.
"We want to get to finals day and we want to win the competition and Shaun can help us do that," chief executive Derek Bowden told BBC Essex.
"Ten minutes after it became clear he wasn't going to be in the Indian Premier League, we signed the paperwork.
"We had prepared for it weeks before, but we wanted to make sure he would be with us for the entire T20 season."
Essex head coach Paul Grayson added: "We believe we have an excellent chance of winning the T20 Blast this season, and Shaun will help us towards that.
"Alongside Jesse Ryder, we now have two really exciting overseas players.
"In the County Championship, we are intent on giving our younger players a chance, and our focus is very much on youth; in the Twenty20 competition, we want to use all our experience in this format and go all the way."
