Cheltenham 2-0 Dagenham and Redbridge

Cheltenham Town, last season's beaten play-off finalists, opened the new League Two season with a home win against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Bury loanee Shaun Harrad found the net on his league debut for the Robins, prodding home a Sido Jombati cross in first-half stoppage time.

Winger Jermaine McGlashan doubled the lead four minutes after the break, firing in from 25 yards.

Medy Elito and Michael Spillane both missed good chances for the Daggers.

Yates happy to break first day duck

"It's the first time I've won on the first day of the season so I'm delighted with that. We got a clean sheet, lots of positives and there's plenty to work on.

"It was never going to be perfect today. It was really hot and they had to put in a real effort.

"Shaun Harrad is here to score goals and he will. I believe if he plays 35 games, he will score 20-25 goals.

"I think today has just reinforced what we already knew. We have a good squad of players, we can compete with the best, fitness wise we're strong, but it also reinforces I need another player at least yet."
