Yeovil Town chief exec confident of managing Championship costs

Yeovil Town chief executive Martyn Starnes says the club could adjust to the increased costs of Championship football if they are promoted.

Yeovil are currently fourth in League One, just one point off top of the table Bournemouth.

"We know there'd be challenges. We are prudent and would continue to work to our budget," Starnes told BBC Somerset.

"We want promotion, it'd be a wonderful day for the club. We'll deal with the financial side if we get there."

He added: "Police costs would rise and we'd have to upgrade facilities to meet the stipulated Championship standards."

The Glovers are currently the form side in League One having won their last eight matches. They have conceded just three times in that period, with striker Paddy Madden scoring 10 goals.

Although things are now going superbly on the pitch, earlier in the season Starnes was forced to defend the club's declining attendances after a record low attendance against Colchester United.

"[Attendances] have slowly started to improve," he continued. "Saturday [against Scunthorpe] was the highest home attendance of the season, which is a great sign."

"If we were in the Championship obviously there'd be some changes, like going from having police at only a few matches a year to every week.

"The increased ticket revenue from away fans would help pay for policing, and the Football League central distribution increases this summer, which would go some way to paying for the facility upgrades too.

"If you get the chance to progress you have to seize it. The team are doing brilliantly at the moment and if we keep playing like this then we'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season."
