Marc-Antoine Fortune: Wigan sign ex-West Bromwich Albion striker

Former West Bromwich Albion and Celtic striker Marc-Antoine Fortune has joined Wigan Athletic on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old French forward left the Baggies at the end of last season.

Fortune, who scored 11 Premier League goals in two spells with Albion, becomes new manager Owen Coyle's sixth signing of the summer.

Strikers Franco Di Santo and have already left relegated Wigan, while and Newcastle have had bids accepted for Arouna Kone.

"To bring a player of such calibre to the football club is a great piece of business," Coyle told the club website.

"He's shown his qualities at the very highest level. When I spoke to [Albion head coach] Steve Clarke, he told me how he didn't want to lose him, which goes to show how important he has been at his former club and proof that he has the capabilities to be a Premier League forward, never mind a Championship one."

Fortune's former West Brom team-mate, goalkeeper Scott Carson, completed his move from Bursaspor to the FA Cup winners on Thursday.

James Perch, Chris McCann, Stephen Crainey and Thomas Rogne have also recently agreed moves to the DW Stadium.

Meanwhile, Sandy Stewart has been reunited with Coyle after being confirmed as the club's new assistant manager. The pair worked together at St Johnstone, Burnley and Bolton.
