Gareth Bale: Wales boss Coleman will not risk Real Madrid winger

Real Madrid's Gareth Bale is not fit enough to play 90 minutes in Wales' upcoming World Cup qualifiers says manager Chris Coleman.

The 24-year-old has reported for Wales duty after his unveiling as a Real Madrid player following his £85.3m world record transfer from Tottenham.

Coleman is hopeful Bale can play some part against Macedonia and Serbia but will not take any chances.

"If he is not ready we will not risk him," he said.

The forward has not played for over a month, but will travel to Macedonia for Friday's World Cup qualifier.

Bale trained with the Wales squad in Cardiff on Tuesday after making it clear at his Real Madrid unveiling he was keen to join his national side in order to regain fitness.

The winger did not feature for Spurs this season before his move to Spain and missed Wales friendly with the Republic of Ireland last month with a foot injury.

Wales are away to Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier on Friday before hosting Serbia at Cardiff City Stadium the following Tuesday.

"He has not done much work in the last six weeks or two months. His last training session was with us before the Republic of Ireland game," Coleman added.

"Is he going to start on Friday? I think that may be a doubt [but] that's not to say he can't play a part though," Coleman added.

"We'll see how the next two or three days go in terms of where he is physically and mentally because it's been very draining on him. The main thing is, he's here.

"We are aware a lot of people will want to see him play in the home game against Serbia. But he has no chance of playing 90 minutes on Friday or on Tuesday."

Coleman praised Bale's new employers Real Madrid for allowing the winger to his national side at their base in Cardiff.

Bale is expected to make his Real Madrid debut against Villarreal on 14 September when La Liga resumes following the international break.

"Credit to them, they have not put any barriers in front of him and there hasn't even been a conversation. They've allowed him to come back," Coleman said.

"I know Carlo Ancelotti's right-hand man Paul Clement very well, he coached with me at Fulham, so that can help us going forward when I go out there to speak to them."
