Lee Mansell has signed for Bristol Rovers after turning down a new deal at Conference Premier rivals Torquay.

Mansell was the Gulls' captain and longest-serving player, having spent the last eight years at Plainmoor.

The 31-year-old midfielder made 380 appearances for the club who, like Rovers, were relegated from the Football League last season.

"I've had eight fantastic years at Torquay but I felt, at 31, I need a new challenge," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"I want to reinvigorate myself and try and add another dimension to the way I play football.

"Rovers don't want to be dilly-dallying around in the Conference for too long. My personal aim is to get back playing in the Football League as fast as possible."

Mansell becomes the fourth summer signing for boss Darrell Clarke, joining Jamie White, Matty Taylor and Jake Gosling.
