Braintree Town have signed striker Dan Walker on a one-year deal following his departure from Hereford.

The 24-year-old joined the Bulls from Luton last summer and scored three times in 44 Conference Premier games.

"He's different to what we've got which is what I was looking for," Iron boss Alan Devonshire told BBC Essex.

Meanwhile, winger Dan Sparkes has signed a new one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after making 36 appearances last season.

Defender Sam Habergham has already committed to a further year at the Amlin Stadium, while Devonshire will hold talks with goalkeeper Nathan McDonald on Saturday.

The Iron surpassed expectations last term by finishing sixth, three points off the play-offs, but will enter next season without regular centre-half Dean Wells, who has joined Stevenage, and top-scorer Dan Holman, after the striker rejected a new deal.

"In the next week there could be another arrival, which I'm looking forward to if I can get it done," said Devonshire.

"After losing our top goal scorer and our best defender it's going to be difficult. Other people have to step up and we need to strengthen the side in other areas.

"It will be hard to follow what we did last year. The main aim will be the 51 points again and see what happens."
