Cambridge United have signed defender Matteo Lanzoni on a one-year deal following his release by Yeovil Town.

The Glovers agreed to terminate the 26-year-old's contract to allow him to join the League Two side.

Italian Lanzoni played just six times for Yeovil after joining from Oldham in January.

"He fits the bill as the sort of player we've been looking for since the start of the summer," U's boss Richard Money told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

Right-back Lanzoni started his career at Sampdoria and had loan spells at numerous Italian clubs before going on to play 15 times for Oldham.

His stints at Oldham and Yeovil mean he has played under Lee Johnson and his father Gary Johnson.
