Kyle Naughton: Swansea City in £5m deal for Tottenham defender

Kyle Naughton has been shown a red card in two of his five Premier League appearances for Tottenham this season

Swansea City have completed a £5m deal for Tottenham right-back Kyle Naughton.

The former England Under-21 international, 26, could be included in Swansea's squad to face Blackburn in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

Naughton played 10 games for Spurs this season but his appearances have been limited since England full-back Kyle Walker returned to fitness.

"I'm really excited, I can't wait to get going and get some games under my belt," Naughton said.

"At Tottenham Kyle Walker was out for a long time, so I was playing.

"Kyle's back now and they signed one or two other players, so I just thought it would be best for me and maybe the club if we went in different directions.

"I've watched Swansea so many times, I've played here so many times against them and their style of football is what really attracted me.

"I like always getting it down and passing it, and that was one of the main attractions for me."

Swansea's current first-choice left-back Neil Taylor, 25, has been linked with a move away from Liberty Stadium.

Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have bid £4.5m for Taylor while West Bromwich Albion are also thought to be keen on the Welsh international.

Taylor has made 23 appearances for the Swans this season and been a regular starter in Garry Monk's side since Ben Davies's move to Tottenham in July 2014.

However, Naughton told BBC Wales Sport that he is a specialist right-back: "I'm definitely a right-back. I can see why you've asked that, I've played a few games on the left side at Tottenham but I'm definitely a right-back and that's where I will want to be playing.

"I can fill in at left-back if asked but I am more of a right-back."

Naughton made 74 appearances for Spurs after joining from Sheffield United in 2009.

"Kyle's experienced at this level and brings Premier League pedigree," Monk said.

"He's a good age for us and we look for players who want to prove a point and are hungry to do well.

"These players don't always become available but it's testament to the club and how far we've come and what we're trying to do."

Swansea, who have money to spend following Wilfried Bony's move to Manchester City, which could be worth up to £28m, also approached Championship side Norwich on Monday about the availability of Sweden defender Martin Olsson.

Meanwhile, Monk says he has spoken to Bafetimbi Gomis about his comments on French television that raised doubts about the striker's future at the club.

Monk said the conversation "remains between us".
