Scunthorpe United have signed Preston North End defender Scott Laird on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old is the third player to join the Iron from the Lilywhites this summer after defender Scott Wiseman and midfielder Jack King.

Laird made 42 appearances for the Deepdale side in 2014-15 as they won promotion to the Championship through the play-offs.

He turned down a new deal with Preston to join League One Scunthorpe.

The former Stevenage man told the club website:, external "I've been lucky in my career to have experienced promotions and have been successful from the Conference, League Two and now League One to the Championship.

"I feel I can bring a lot of know-how and hopefully help a lot of players who are coming to the club who have not necessarily done it and get Scunthorpe back to the Championship."
