Coventry City: Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent happy to move on loan

Kent played for England Under-20s against the Czech Republic at Shrewsbury during the international break

Liverpool's teenage forward Ryan Kent says he took advice from Anfield colleagues before agreeing his four-month loan move to Coventry City.

Reds coach Gary McAllister served both as player and manager of the Sky Blues, while skipper Jordan Henderson made his full league debut after being loaned by Sunderland to Coventry in January 2009.

Liverpool's Under-21s physio Richie Partridge is also a Coventry old boy.

"There's a few people at Liverpool who have been there previously," said Kent.

"They all told me good things about the club," the 18-year-old told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, after signing a youth loan deal until 16 January.

"And I'm sure I'll find out a lot more good stuff while I'm here.

"Coventry are a club with a lot of pedigree, with a lot of good player and a good manager and I can't wait to get started. I hope I can bring a lot of flair and energy to the team."

Having become boss Tony Mowbray's 10th signing since the end of last season, five of them strikers, the England Under-20 international is a replacement for James Maddison, whose ankle ligament injury will sideline him until the New Year.

"With the injury to James Maddison, it was important to bring in a player with similar ability in forward areas," Mowbray said.

"James is more of a technical footballer who plays in little pockets of space and finds and passes it. This lad's more about making things happen, a bit more mobile in terms of speed and directness.

"I'm pretty sure the only reason he is here is that it is the next step in his development at Liverpool. He's looking for an opportunity to progress his career and we can give him an environment in which to do that."

Kent could make his debut in Saturday's trip to Glanford Park, when Coventry resume their League One season after the international break.

After starting with three straight wins, they lost at Walsall after being rocked by the early loss of Maddison, and were then held at home by Southend, but climbed to second with Sunday's 2-1 win at Burton Albion.
