    Here's one you don't see every day. The Usain Bolt of the tortoise world has raced into the record books as the fastest ever.

    Bertie, from Adventure Valley in County Durham, covered 18ft (5.48m) in 19.59 seconds - smashing the previous best of 43.7 seconds, which stood since 1977.

    "He's just like the real-life Usain Bolt as he loves the attention his run has brought and meeting people," said owner Janine Calzini.

    Steven Gerrard might have stayed at Liverpool if the club had offered him the chance to shadow Brendan Rodgers and learn about managing a team, the former England skipper has told the Daily Mail.

    "What would have kept me at Liverpool into this season was the chance of shadowing Brendan Rodgers and his staff as well as playing," he says.

    "Those ideas were only mentioned to me after I had announced I was leaving."

    British Cycling has announced the Great Britain Cycling Team for the forthcoming UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, Virginia, from 19-27 September.

    Mark Cavendish  [injury permitting after his crash today] and Geraint Thomas have been selected for the men’s road race, while Lizzie Armitstead, who has enjoyed another successful year on the road, will compete in the women’s road race.

    British Cycling national time-trial champion Hayley Simmonds will represent GB for the first time, while Alex Dowsett has been selected for the men’s time-trial.

    Tour de France winner Chris Froome is not selected after withdrawing from the Vuelta a Espana with injury.

    The 37-year-old took the catch to remove Paul Collingwood in Notts' Championship match against Durham at Trent Bridge.

    Read is the first player to reach the landmark since Jack Russell in 1997.

    Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was asked about out-of-favour forward Emmanuel Adebayor in his news conference earlier, and confirmed that the 31-year-old, who has not featured this season or been named in the Premier League and Europa League squads, was indeed still out of favour at White Hart Lane.

    "I was very clear with him, we had a conversation before the end of last season and I explained my idea," Pochettino said. 

    "I don't need to explain much more, I think it is clear he is not in my idea, in my mind or in the plans for the future of Tottenham."

    Bradford CitymanagerPhil Parkinsonhas signed a new three-year deal. 

    The 47-year-old took over at Valley Parade in August 2011 and helped the club to promotion from League Two in 2012-13.

    He guided the Bantams to the League Cup final in that same year and last season led them to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
