Ian Black was a team-mate of future Scotland captain Scott Brown as a youngster at Hibernian
Shrewsbury Town have signed out-of-contract former Rangers midfielder Ian Black on a two-year contract.
The once-capped Scotland international, 30, also has an option of a further year, after a successful trial at the Greenhous Meadow, following his release by Rangers in June.
"My main aim was to get somewhere back in England," he said.
"I'm quite fortunate that my wife is from down south so she is delighted to be moving back into England."

After making his debut with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ian Black then moved to Hearts, where he suffered financial problems under then owner Vladimir Romanov before moving to Rangers in the wake of their relegation from the Scottish Premiership, just as they were about to be placed in Division Three. He has scored 17 goals in 296 Scottish league appearances. |
Black's arrival comes just a fortnight after fellow Scottish midfielder Martin Woods asked to have his contract terminated so that he could return to Scotland for personal reasons to do with his family.
Since then, Micky Mellon's promoted League One side have also lost another midfielder, James Wesolowski, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a second ACL injury this year.
"I came down last week for a few days' training and after meeting the gaffer (Micky Mellon) and listening to his plans, I was keen to join," added Black.
