Wrexham moved into the National League play-off places as Mark Carrington scored the only goal at struggling Torquay United.

The former MK Dons and Bury midfielder pounced at the far post after Durrell Berry failed to clear a corner.

Torquay had the better of the early chances as Courtney Richards hit the side netting and player-manager Kevin Nicholson fired over the bar.

Nathan Smith forced Wrexham to clear off the line late on from a corner.

Wrexham manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio Wales:

"It's not a game I want to watch on DVD again but it's the sort of game you have to win if you're going to be successful, and I keep saying that.

"The first half possibly won us the game today because we said let's go against the wind first half and use it the second half.

"We didn't really have a load of chances but you only need the one and we took it."
