  1. Why Gabriel is an NFL raritypublished at 14:19 BST 5 October

Dillon Gabriel is something of a rarity in the NFL, for the three reasons. Firstly, he's from Hawaii. Marcus Mariota and Tua Tagovailoa, who are also from the 50th state, may have played this season but today Gabriel will become just the fifth quarterback from Hawaii to start an NFL game.

Secondly, he is left-handed, although Tagovailoa also happens to throw with his left arm. However, Gabriel is even smaller than the Dolphins signal caller at 5ft 11in - and it is thought only five NFL QBs have ever been smaller, including current players Kyler Murray and Bryce Young.

Gabriel is an unusual package so has many doubters but, five weeks into his NFL career, the 24-year-old now has the opportunity to show that he belongs.

  2. Gabriel to start as Sanders named as inactivepublished at 14:17 BST 5 October

Cleveland earned a welcome boost by pulling off a late fightback to inflict the Green Bay Packers' first defeat of the season in week three, but after a 34-10 loss at Detroit last week, head coach Kevin Stefanski opted to make a change at quarterback.

Veteran Joe Flacco has been benched in favour of rookie Dillon Gabriel, a third-round pick, who will make his first NFL start a long way from home as he hails from Hawaii.

Gabriel established himself as the Browns' back-up in training camp, with Shedeur Sanders third on the depth chart. But any international fans hoping to see Sanders get some action today will be sorely disappointed.

Flacco has been named as the new back-up with Sanders staying as third-choice, and the fifth-round draft pick has been named as inactive for today's game so won't suit up at Tottenham.

  3. NFL plans 16 games outside the USApublished at 14:15 BST 5 October

    Roger GoodellImage source, Getty Images

This is the 40th regular season game in London and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says it's the "birthplace" of the NFL's international growth.

"It gets better and better every year, it gets bigger and bigger also," Goodell told Sky Sports. "I always say when I come here now you can't tell the difference whether you're in the States or here in Europe."

And Goodell has lofty ambitions for expanding the international games even further.

"We want to play 16 games," he added. "We want to continue to play in the key markets around the world. London franky is the birthplace of our international efforts and we owe so much to this market for giving us the opportunity to show it and make sure we could do this successfully."

We've been here before... kind of.

Though the venue is different, these two sides have met in London previously.

In 2017 they faced off at Twickenham with the Browns once again the 'home' team.

But it was the Vikings who ran out comfortable 33-16 winners that day in a dismal 0-16 season for Cleveland, while Minnesota finished 13-3 and lost the NFC Championship game to Philadelphia, who went on to win the 'Philly Special' Super Bowl.

  5. Wentz to lead depleted Vikings offencepublished at 14:08 BST 5 October

Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz will make his third straight start for the Vikings with first-choice JJ McCarthy still being kept out with the ankle injury he picked up in week two.

Wentz, 32, threw for 350 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his side's narrow defeat to the Steelers in Dublin last weekend but will be behind a depleted offensive line against the Browns.

The Vikings already had several offensive linemen out before centre Ryan Kelly and right tackle Brian O'Neill joined their injury list in Dublin, meaning it could be a tough afternoon for the former Eagles signal caller.

Kevin O'Connell's team are 2-2 in NFC North after wins against Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals and defeats against Atlanta Falcons and the Steelers.

  6. Browns' Garrett chasing sack recordpublished at 14:07 BST 5 October

If Carson Wentz and the Vikings are to prevail, he'll likely need to avoid one of the NFL's toughest ever tacklers.

Defensive end Myles Garrett will be coming for him as the 29-year-old chases down a place in the history books.

With 106.5 sacks, Garrett requires just two more to overtake Reggie White (108) as the player with the most under the age of 30.

It is a record that has stood since 1982, when the individual sack first became an official statistic.

The 2023 defensive player of the year already has four sacks in four appearances this season.

With his side's injury-stricken O-line taking on a mean Cleveland defence, a big performance from star wideout Justin Jefferson will be key in the Vikings' push for a third win of the season.

The 26-year-old hasn't found the endzone since the opening weekend but did break the 100-yard barrier for the first time this term in Dublin.

Since entering the NFL in 2020, Jefferson has 7,758 receiving yards and 35 career games with at least 100 receiving yards.

With 109 receiving yards on Sunday against Cleveland he can surpass Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice (7,866 receiving yards) and Calvin Johnson (7,836) for the third-most receiving yards by a player in his first six seasons in NFL history.

On top of that, he can also surpass Julio Jones (35 games) for the second-most games with at least 100 receiving yards by a player in his first six seasons in NFL history, trailing only Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss (38 games).

Supporters have flown thousands of miles to see the Vikings in Ireland last Sunday and the UK this week.

One fan from Kent even took the opportunity to set himself one of the more unusual challenges of cycling back from Dublin after Minnesota's defeat to Pittsburgh last weekend.

"It was something I enjoyed, not something I'd do again," he said.

After cycling through the battering wind and rain of Storm Amy - I'd say that's fair!

Josh Metellus was drafted in 2020 but this will be his fourth international game already, and although the Vikings lost in Dublin last week, they won on their two previous trips to Tottenham. Metellus recently told me "we’ve got to keep that streak going" and said he's excited about experiencing another London game.

"Usually, you play somewhere and it's all the same jersey, but on the way to the stadium at Tottenham, I seen like 32 jerseys, I seen every team," said the 27-year-old safety.

"I was like 'whoa, I thought it was a Vikings game'. But that was really cool to see, people just love football. I seen a bunch of different people of all shapes and sizes, who enjoyed the game and the events leading up to it. You don't necessarily have to have a team, you know. It's just watching the game and falling in love with it."

On whether that made for a unique atmosphere: "For sure. The people out in London do a great job of bringing the energy. Whichever team comes out with the most energy can steal the momentum and get the crowd so yeah, it definitely makes a unique experience. It's almost like a College Bowl game. It's a neutral site where it could go either way, depending on momentum and stuff like that.

"I really like the stadium," he added. "It feels like a perfect place to play overseas. The locker room's nice, the feel of it when you walk inside, it feels like the spotlight's all on you. I'm a big fan of playing in stadiums that feel good, especially ones that we win in!"

    Cleveland Browns bus in London

If you've been around London this week, you might have spotted a sight-seeing bus with a difference.

Many fan events have been taking place across the city in the build-up to today's game - including pub takeovers by the Chiefs as well as the Browns and Vikings - and from the Browns' fan hub in Victoria, they were running free bus tours for fans.

Cleveland have only played in one previous international game - back in 2017 - so Browns fans have been keen to make the most of it. Those about to board this Browns bus yesterday had travelled from across the UK, the US and some even from Germany.

Dublin hosted its first ever regular-season game at Croke Park last Sunday, with the Pittsburgh Steelers holding on for a thrilling 24-21 win over Minnesota.

Justin Jefferson and Co. then hopped across the Irish Sea on Monday to become the first NFL team to play in two foreign countries in the same season.

After last week's defeat ended their 100% international record, the Vikings have a 4-0 in London having won at Wembley, Twickenham and twice at today's venue - in 2022 and 2024.

The Vikings had fun as they beat the New York Jets here last year, in particular Cam Bynum and fellow safety Josh Metellus. For the third week running, they pulled a pre-planned celebration out of the bag after Bynum intercepted Aaron Rodgers, replicating the handshake from The Parent Trap movie,, external which is set in London.

"That was a fun one," Metellus told me. "Me and Beezie - shout-out to Beezie, Cam Bynum - he's one of my favourite ever team-mates. We've always loved Disney. Parent Trap is one of our favourite movies and we thought it'd be a perfect time to get that going. He got the pick and we were able to get the celebration down. It was nice man, to relive something from your childhood.

“He watched the movie with his wife and came up to me one day and said 'yo, I've got an idea for something we can do if one of us gets a turnover'. He said Parent Trap and I was like 'I basically already learned that when I was a kid so that'd be easy'.

"Well, I thought I remembered, it was way more complicated than I remember. We practiced so many times, it took like two days for us."

Metellus promised me they didn't skip any practice time to work on their routine but I'm not convinced! Sadly, he hasn't got anything up his sleeve for today, he said it wouldn't be right without Bynum, who is now with the Colts.

After an epic weekend in Ireland, the NFL roadshow made the short trip to England this week to continue this season's record run of international games.

And London has a tough act to follow after Irish fans rejoiced in finally getting to see a regular-season game in Dublin last week.

They witnessed the Pittsburgh Steelers claim a nail-biting win over the Minnesota Vikings, and the Vikings have also hopped straight across the Irish Sea for the first of this season's three games in London.

They face the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham today and we'll have live text coverage on that, followed by the 6pm and 9pm games. So strap yourselves in for a bumper NFL Sunday.
