Green Bay Packers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Now it's the most appropriately named running-back in NFL history, Kenneth Gainwell, that gets the yardage the Eagles need on third down.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley weaves out wide and then back infield for a nice gain.

Then quarterback Jalen Hurts keeps the ball on a fake hand-off and gets another 20-odd yards before sliding to the turf.

Philadelphia quickly back into Green Bay territory and this is already looking like a long night for the Packers' defense with the Barkley-Hurts one-two punch.

But that's where the Packers' progress ends as quarterback Jordan Love cannot evade defensive pressure and, despite showing a fleet foot, he's eventually sacked by a trip-tackle by Nolan Smith Jr.

It forces a second Green Bay punt of the game and the visitors are yet to get going.

Tight end Tucker Kraft hauls in a Jordan Love pass out wide to give Green Bay their maiden first down of this wildcard encounter.

Baby steps and all that. Despite a fairly disastrous start, they're only one score down, remember.

Speaking of Josh Jacobs, the Packers hand him the ball on first down but he's halted for a gain of just two yards.

Another blow for the Packers as offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins limps off after that play.

Graphic showing Green Bay Packers stats from the 2024 NFL regular season

Gone are the days of Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers launching the ball downfield for the Green Bay Packers.

Jordan Love has impressed since taking over from Rodgers as the Packers' starting quarterback and the arrival of Josh Jacobs in the off-season has allowed him to lean more on the run game, something not traditionally associated with Green Bay.

The Packers have had some body blows early. They need to stem the tide here.

  8. Packers force a Philly puntpublished at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January

Green Bay Packers 0-7 Philadelphia Eagles

Big tackle by Javon Bullard to stop Saquon Barkley picking up a fresh set of downs on third down, and finally Green Bay have something to celebrate.

The Eagles punt bounces into the visitors' endzone and the Packers will resume on their own 20-yard line.

Diving catch by AJ Brown keeps the Eagles' momentum going.

Five minutes gone and it's been all Philadelphia.

Packers QB Jordan Love escapes a sack on third-down-and-eight but heaves an aimless pass well away from anyone.

It's three-and-out for the Packers and Philadelphia will get the ball back in decent field position from the Green Bay punt.

This has got to be the best version of Jordan Love here for the Packers to win the game. You can't panic or change the game script. Just go out and execute.

Goodness me, almost another Green Bay turnover!

Jordan Love overthrows receiver Dontayvion Wicks and is fortunate to escape an interception.

Keisean Nixon makes a better job of his second kick-off return than he did his first.

But even then he can't get past the 25-yard line - and the Packers get backed up by a holding penalty.

Jordan Love's elbow issues will be tested out here, behind early and starting from deep inside his own half.

The game began with a rousing rendition of the Rocky theme in Philadelphia.

And now they might as well break into 'All the Time in the World' - because that's what Green Bay allow Jalen Hurts.

He's given FOREVER to find Jahan Dotson at the back of the endzone and, wow, the Eagles have made a flying start here in Philly.

  15. 'Critical for Packers to ensure Barkley doesn't get off to a great start'published at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January

Saquon Barkley got 106 rushing yards in their first game of the season against Green Bay and you were like 'oh yeah, this is going to work. This might be the magic elixir that the Eagles were missing the year before'.

The Barkley fit's been big and it's so critical for Green Bay to make sure he doesn't get off to a great start, build that confidence and get the home ground fired up.

This is about the Packers hanging in this championship fight the first couple of rounds and stopping the run is a big part of that.

  16. Barkley key for Eaglespublished at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January

It's the speed Saquon Barkley has. The ability to break a tackle.. and then go into sixth gear. He is so impressive.

Controversy already as replays appeared to show that Nixon was on the ground before he lost possession.

However, the original call stands - and Saquon Barkley twists and turns his way to within 15 yards of the endzone.

  18. Eagles force fumblepublished at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January

    What a start!

The Eagles win the toss, elect to kick off and, as Packers returner Keisean Nixon is creamed by a huge hit, Philadephia recover the ball.

    Or do they?
