    Men's discus final

Joy for Slovenia, as Kristjan Ceh becomes the country's first ever gold medalist in a major outdoor athletics event.

Ceh's second throw of 68.08m was the benchmark, and was never bettered.

Lukas Weisshaidinger of Austria takes silver, with Lithuania's world record holder Mykolas Alekna surprisingly only bronze.

It's a shock to me as Katarina Johnson-Thompson didn't look injured. A massive disappointment for the British sport.

Mykolas Alekna is going for gold here and it is always interesting to see how he would handle the pressure.

In the end if it stays this way Kristjan Ceh is getting his revenge by getting on top in the European championships after being second to Alekna in Munich two years ago.

It is not enough to lift him up the standings however, and the British athlete is confirmed as eighth place in Rome.

Noor Vidts is in personal best shape and having a fantastic competition, it is being overshadowed by Nafissatou Thiam's performance but I suppose that does normally happen.

The men's discus final is heading towards a fascinating conclusion. Mykolas Alekna, the world record holder, threw his best effort of the final with throw four - 67.48m.

But he's still not been able to knock off the leader, Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia, who set 68.08m on his second throw.

  19. Okoye eighth in discus finalpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 7 June

    Men's discus final

Apologies, I was incorrect in the earlier post regarding the discus final. It is not the top six who progress after the first three throws, but the top eight - which means Lawrence Okoye is still in contention having been eighth at the half way stage.

With his fourth throw, he achieves a new best distance of 63.38m, although he does not move up the rankings.
