For me, that seems compeltly insane.

He hit the barrier but not on purpouse, it wouldn't afffect the stadings of the race at the end of the day.

The athlete who is affected still clears the hurdle

I feel this is very unfair if he is going to lose his world title for that mistake. Obviously the USA will appeal this.

It is heart-wrenching for him to celebrate then find out that title may be gone

    Men's 400m hurdles

Rai Benjamin has lost his men's 400m hurdles title!

The American is subject to a disqualification having dislodged the hurdle in the next lane when clipping his own on the final straight.

He was wearing a crown and still enjoying his celebrations on the track when he found out.

It's likely we'll see an appeal from the USA camp, as that seems rather harsh.

News coming in that Rai Benjamin has been disqualified after winning men's 400m hurdles gold.

But nobody appears to have told him as he continues to celebrate with a crown on his head.

Eventually, he is pulled to the side for a word and removes the crown. That is devastating.

Thrown a personal best to lead the heptathlon? Why not thrown another one just for fun.

That's what Anna Hall of the United States did - having thrown 15.32m with her first attempt, she fouled her second and then finished the event with a 15.80m throw.

The rest of the field is a way back - Nafi Thiam is next best with 14.85m, while Abigail Pawlett, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Jade O'Dowda threw bests of 13.85, 13.55 and 13.37 respectively.

Never in doubt, Femke Bol runs a perfect race to take gold in a time of 51.54 seconds - a world-leading time this year.

The Dutch athlete leads home Jasmine Jones, the American running a brilliant race to take silver in a personal best time.

Bronze is won by Slovakia's Emma Zapetalova, ahead of highly fancied Americans Anna Cockrell and Dalilah Mohammed who finish fourth and seventh respectively.

The second-fastest 400m hurdler in history is raring to go here, in the absence of the fastest, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

    Women's 400m hurdles final

With Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone having so spectacularly moved over to the 400m, there is room for a new star to rise in place of the double Olympic champion.

Femke Bol, the reigning world champion, qualified quickest for the final and the Dutchwoman is clear favourite here.

But she was beaten to silver at Paris 2024 by American Anna Cockrell, who will have her eye on beating Bol once again in Tokyo.

Cockrell is one of three Americans in this final, alongside compatriots Jasmine Jones and Dalilah Mohammed.

The second set of athletes in the women's javelin are into their three qualifying throws.

European champion Victoria Hudson added 1.7m to her Austrian record with a world-leading 67.76m at the European Team Championships in June. However, she has failed to reach the final in four of her five major global events.

We'll let you know if she goes better here.

The Olympic champion secures world gold!

The 400m hurdles goes to Rai Benjamin of the United States who wins with a time of 46.52 seconds.

It's been Benjamin and world champion Karsten Warholm going into the final straight but the Norwegian fades and is passed by three other athletes, with Alison dos Santos of Brazil and Abderrahman Samba of Qatar taking silver and bronze.

They're not getting near Benjamin though, who clipped the final hurdle but comes across the line in a season-best time.

The big three athletes of the men's 400m hurdles compete once again on the same track they all achieved Olympic medals at four years ago.

Brazil’s Alison dos Santos, USA's Rai Benjamin and Norway’s Karsten Warholm all dipped under the previous world record at the Tokyo Games in 2021, and all three will fancy their chances once again.

Warholm won gold in 2021. However, it was Benjamin that took the Olympic title in a thrilling race at Paris 2024. Warholm is currently the quickest competitor this year with a time of 46.28, while Benjamin isn't far off with 46.54.

Dos Santos looked slower in the semi-finals, but you can't rule him out of stepping up his game in the final.

Keely Hodgkinson spoke to BBC Sport after qualifying for the 800m final: "I am happy with that. It wasn't anything special, just getting through it.

"I think this is my fifth global final - at 23, I am quite proud of that. That is an achievement as well.

"We have got me and G [Hunter-Bell] in the final, so we're happy."

The men's triple jump final is well under way. No British interest here.

Olympic champion Jordan Diaz failed to qualify because of injury, but Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Pedro Pichardo did make it through. The Portuguese took Olympic silver last summer ahead of Italy’s world indoor champion Andy Diaz Hernandez.

Defending outdoor world champion Hugues Fabrice Zango is competing in his final competition before retiring. “It’s time for my last dance!” he said. “The goal? Win, period.”

The only automatic qualifier was Algeria’s Yasser Mohammed Triki - he was fifth two years ago.

But there is confirmation that, on Sunday night, Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter Bell will both race for gold in the women's 800m.

Nobody wants a British one-two as much as those two. Do not miss it!

Unfortunately, Sarah Moraa looks like she has overstretched herself chasing down Keely Hodgkinson on the line. The Kenyan has to be helped from the track by support staff and looks to have injured her leg.

We wait and see whether she will make the final.

But one thing is for certain - Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter Bell, the dual British hopes, will both be there.
