Brian Cookson: UCI president 'shocked' by doping report

International Cycling Union (UCI) president Brian Cookson tells BBC sports editor Dan Roan he is "shocked" by some of the findings of the Cycling Independent Reform Commission's report into the doping culture in the sport.

Cookson says the report he commissioned on taking office in 2013 makes "uncomfortable reading", with the behaviour of the UCI at the time "indefensible".

The "degree to which the UCI assisted" Lance Armstrong stuns Cookson, who describes as "very significant" the suppression of a positive test for the Texan during the 1999 Tour de France.

And Cookson says he will also call on former president Hein Verbruggen to consider his honorary president role with the UCI.
