Giro d'Italia: Late crash costs Alberto Contador & Richie Porte
Tinkoff-Saxo's Alberto Contador surrenders the race leader's pink jersey to Astana's Fabio Aru after a dramatic late crash on stage 13 of the Giro d'Italia in Jesolo.
The crash, just outside the final three kilometres, left around 20 riders picking themselves up as Lampre-Merida's Sacha Modolo sprinted to the stage victory.
Contador, who started the stage 17 seconds up on Aru, raced to the finish on a team-mate's bike to limit his losses, but was left 19 seconds down on the Astana rider, surrendering a leader's jersey in a grand tour for the first time in his career.
Team Sky's Richie Porte lost more than two minutes and slipped to 16th in the general classification, more than five minutes down on Aru.
