Hands up who wants to go in goal?

Veteran defender Wayne Thomas came to the rescue when Worcester City were left without a goalie just 30 seconds into a game.

Having lost first-choice keeper Nathan Vaughan with a groin injury for Saturday's Conference North meeting with Harrogate Town, stand-in Jose Veiga then got injured inside the first minute at Aggborough.

"Within the first 30 seconds Jose got a nasty-looking knee injury," said City boss Carl Heeley. "So I got the boys together and asked 'How many of you have ever played in goal?' And Tommo put his hand up."

But City played so well that Thomas did not have a meaningful save to make and ended up winning 2-0. "He was protected really well," Heeley told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"But he said if they'd had a shot at him, he'd have saved it anyway."
