Rory McIlroy receives award from Mary Peters Trust
Rory McIlroy receives an award from the Mary Peters Trust in recognition of his success and influence on young people ahead of the start of the Irish Open at Carton House on Thursday.
The Belfast-based charity was set up to help sportspeople by Dame Mary Peters, who won gold in the pentathlon at the 1972 Olympics.
"I haven't had the year I would like in terms of golf but I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well at this event," said McIlroy.
"Last year at Royal Portrush was the first time I have really enjoyed an Irish Open in a few years as I embraced the occasion, and I want to do the same this year.
"If I go out and enjoy the atmosphere, then I will play well," added the world number two.
