BBC Midlands Sport's Unsung Hero 2015: Alec Davies

Alec Davies, who has been the timekeeper for Worcester St John's cycling club for 43 years, has been voted BBC Midlands Sport's Unsung Hero for 2015.

Davies, 92, from Worcester, who has also in the past served British cycling as a Drugs in Sport official, is out on the roads whatever the weather to officiate at club meetings. He also officiates national meetings at weekends.

"I'm not in the habit of chopping and changing a lot," he told BBC Midlands Today's Nick Clitheroe. "Once I get into something I stay with it whatever it happens to be. In this case it was cycling and I'm glad that I did stay with it.

"At all these events, at the start or finish, there's always a lot of chatter going on amongst people. You've just got to concentrate. It's almost like wearing blinkers over your ears. You must just concentrate on the watch."

The BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award rewards outstanding contribution by individuals at grassroots level, who give up their time on a voluntary basis so that sport can be played and enjoyed by people throughout the UK. Over 150 Unsung Heroes have been honoured over the last decade.
