Fab Flournoy eyes Newcastle Eagles trophy double

Newcastle Eagles player-coach Fab Flournoy has targeted a league and play-off double after lifting the British Basketball League championship.

Wins against Birmingham and Surrey United sealed the title, but Flournoy's focus has already moved on to further silverware after a trophyless 2013.

Flournoy told BBC Look North: "We want to celebrate, but have the play-offs.

"We have the chance to pick up two pieces of silverware in one season and that would be fantastic."

Reward for top spot is a play-off quarter-final against the eighth-placed side - which will be confirmed once the rest of the BBL has completed their regular season schedule.

The Eagles have been British basketball's most dominant force over the last 10 years, with this championship their sixth in nine seasons.

Among the mainstays of that group throughout that period of success have been Flournoy, 40 and the man known as Chuck in the Eagles locker room - 38-year-old Charles Smith.

"Chuck loved it because there have been question marks over his age and my age," Flournoy said.

"It's been a tough season, competitive and for us a drought as we didn't win anything last year."
