With Frank Smith stepping down, Nigel Benn, former two-weight world champion, gets his chance on the microphone.

Benn begins by rattling off a list of who his son, Conor, has been sparring in preparation for this fight.

Denzel Bentley "had his hands full", Nigel says.

"Then he was sparring with the guy who knocked out [Jaime] Munguia... Bruno something, I can't remember his last name. Conor bullied him around.

"To put the cherry on top he sparred a guy called William Scull."

Then comes a lively exchange between Nigel and who else, Chris Eubank Jr.

Nigel: “First four rounds him and Conor were even stevens. They were going ‘perfecto’ every time they were hitting Conor. Around round five, William was sitting on the ropes because he was tired. Then it came to round six, seven, started feeling the pace. This is the William Scull, IBF champion."

    Eubank: "Superstar."

Nigel: "You can’t shut me up mate, you haven’t been where I’ve been. What happened, round eight came."

    Eubank: "Uh, oh."

Nigel: "And then he just stopped. He just quote. Couldn’t no take more. He just damaged the IBF world champion. I am so confident this don’t go past four rounds."

    Ah.

    It's not any better.

Chris Eubank Jr says "if I'm not letting Eddie speak then there is no way you are getting a chance".

Frank Smith persists to express his gratitude to various people before getting into a bit of back-and-forth with Eubank.

    Eubank v Benn

Matchroom's Eddie Hearn, who promotes Conor Benn, was asked to say his bit but as we've seen in previous news conferences, Chris Eubank Jr refused to let him speak.

Eubank speaks over the promoter and Hearn gets to his feet and says if he isn't allowed to talk then he will pass to someone else... Matchroom CEO Frank Smith enters from stage right and takes the seat.

Back to the Chris Eubank Jr side of the table.

Ronnie Davies, who was in the corner for both of Chris Eubank Sr's fights against Nigel Benn, is invited to speak:

"I'm proud of the kid, he has done great. He is like his father, nothing beats him physically or mentally."

  6. 'Biggest fight in British boxing'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 24 April

    Eubank v Benn

Over to Conor Benn's trainer, Tony Sims:

"We've all watched as Conor's talents have grown and he's here now in probably the biggest fight in boxing, certainly the biggest fight in British boxing.

"So called experts are all favouring Chris Eubank Jr to win the fight because they say that Conor is disadvantaged moving up two weights, but I do believe Conor Benn carries his power up and has the speed.

"He has been through two years of hell and has gone from being a boy to a man. We've seen in this camp that he has excelled."

  7. 'Different mentality'published at 19:25 British Summer Time 24 April

    Eubank v Benn

Johnathon Banks, who trains Chris Eubank Jr:

"Chris showed every day in training how disciplined he is in the sport to prepare for this show.

"As a student of the game I respect any person who makes up their mind to put on gloves and defend themselves. But even with that, I think what separates what Chris Eubank has [to Conor Benn] is a different mentality."

  9. Nigel Benn ever-present in son’s cornerpublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 24 April

BBC Sport at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Nigel Benn has been an ever-present in his son’s corner throughout the build-up. The British boxing legend joined Benn in camp and has been by his side in every media event and interview.

He took a front row seat at yesterday’s media workouts, keenly watching Benn shadowbox. Benn looked pretty explosive on the pads. But what’s the old adage? Pads don’t hit back.

Conor Benn has taken his seat but Chris Eubank Jr, not one to shy away from a moment in the spotlight, is waiting side of stage to be announced on by Michael Buffer.

Ring announcer Michael Buffer has taken his place on the stage to signal that we are close to finally hearing from Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.

Not sure what the delay was but Eubank only emerged a few moments ago.

Organisers will be keen to keep Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn at a safe distance from each other until they step into the ring on Saturday.

They did cross paths during the open workout at Canary Wharf on Wednesday and it led to an intense stare-off.

Will we be treated to a face-off tonight?

  14. 'I would let the public know'published at 19:10 British Summer Time 24 April

Conor Benn has always maintained innocence after his failed drug test.

Yet the reasons why and how the fertility drug Clomifene entered his body remain a mystery.

Either way, Benn's reputation amongst boxing fans has been stained and although he has been cleared to fight by an anti-doping panel, critics believe he should be more transparent about the reasons behind the failed test.

Benn says he has been "cleared three times" and is reluctant to dwell on the past.

His father, Nigel, said £1m was spent on legal battles and outlined the struggles that both he and Conor have been through.

Former super-middleweight champion Nigel said that he is not a drinker but consumed "half a bottle of red wine every night" during the period as his mental health issues worsened, while his son turned to therapy to get through the dark times.

"I was watching my son really crying in my arms, heartbroken. I just knew [he was innocent]," Nigel said.

"Because [if he was] I would let the public know, I'd say, 'Mate, yeah, sorry mate, he's done this'. But I know he hasn't and I will stand with my son."

  17. Any prohibited objects, sir?published at 19:07 British Summer Time 24 April

We've seen plenty of wild and wonderful scenes play out over the years in boxing that you would never see in any other sport.

Getting scanned for possibly carrying eggs is one that I'm pretty sure Mohamed Salah, Lewis Hamilton or Novak Djokovic would be subjected to when stepping into their respective sporting arenas.

The anticipation is building. The table place name cards have just been put down and, I'm afraid to say, there's no Chris Eubank Sr. Not that we expected him to turn up.

  19. Eubank and Benn clash at news conferencepublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 24 April

That's the undercard all boxed off then with help from those wonderful images.

It's almost time for the final news conference between bitter rivals Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.

When they came face-to-face in February, it was pretty chaotic.

Eubank landed himself a £100,000 fine for slapping Benn with an egg.

Here's another opportunity to take a look back at how it all played out.
