'Winner' Usyk won't reveal Fury secrets before rematch

  1. Postpublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time

There's a very serious tone to Tyson Fury here.

A focused a zoned in look on his face.

There are also some choice words, which I have omitted, and I should issue an apology for those of you watching the live feed.

    Usyk v Fury 2

    Tyson Fury continues:

"I've got nothing to say, apart from there is going to be a lot of hurt and pain in this fight, you watch.

"That's all I got to say. Talking's been done. The first fight I talked, I joked – all my career - this time, I am serious. I am going to do some serious damage. Watch me go to work."

  3. Postpublished at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time

    Usyk v Fury 2

Tyson Fury is first to be asked a question:

"I'm going to dish out a whole lot of pain," he says after thinking on the question for a good five seconds."

Oleksandr Usyk, not one to be outdone, is serenaded down the stairs but a choir signing in Ukrainian.

He's wearing maroon number with some lovely embroidery.

Not in my top three for his outfits but still a bold choice.

As will be the case on Saturday, Tyson Fury is first to make the walk.

Few fighters manage to get through their entire career without tasting defeat at least once - even the greats of the sport like Muhammad Ali, Manny Pacquiao and Katie Taylor.

Both Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury entered the ring undefeated in May but only one - Usyk - left with an unblemished record still intact.

Rocky Marciano, Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward and Joe Calzaghe are among an elite group to have hung up their gloves without ever experiencing a loss.

So, how important is it to be undefeated?

Nathan Heaney, Richie Woodhall, Shannon Ryan, Kevin Lerena, Hannah Rankin and Moses Itauma tell BBC Sport how much attention they pay to staying undefeated and how they bounced back from "losing the 0".

  8. Intense Fury tones down brashnesspublished at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time

    Kal Sajad

There have been hardly any social-media outbursts from Fury who has quietly gone about his business in preparation for what he describes as the "biggest fight of my career".

Fury was training in Malta and said he hadn't spoken to anyone on the phone for three months, including his wife.

We are seeing glimpses of his brashness. He has promised to send Usyk into retirement. But there is definitely an intensity about the Gypsy King that we've not seen for a long time.

We're 20 minutes behind schedule. This wasn't in the plan and I'm being kept on my toes now!

From what I can make out, Moses Itauma, Demsey McKean, Johnny Fisher, Dave Allen and the promoters and managers are in their seats on the very long table that has been assembled for this news conference.

But that means we're missing the two key cogs - Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury.

Hopefully they aren't too far away or I'm going to have to get very creative.

Remember you can get in touch with your thoughts on who will win.

    Usyk v Fury 2

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's... Oleksandr Usyk.

As Kal mentioned earlier, Tuesday's grand arrivals were something to behold, with fighters emerging from a Boeing 747 before walking along a red carpet and then answering a couple of questions.

When Tyson Fury got to the bottom of those stairs, there was one interested onlooker from the cockpit.

  12. What time is Usyk v Fury 2?published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time

Ringwalk timings in Saudi have been a bit hit and miss in the last 12 months. Some fights have begun well after midnight while others have started closer to 22:00.

Organisers in Riyadh this time are aiming for the earlier end of that spectrum.

The first fight is set to start at 16:00 GMT.

Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are targeting 22:15 for their ringwalks, meaning the fight will probably startaround 22:30.

  13. 'I don't want to live a life of regret'published at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time

    Fisher v Allen

Saturday's main event is one of four heavyweight contests on the card in Riyadh.

Fireworks are expected when British rivals Dave Allen and Johnny Fisher square off.

Allen, 32, has 31 fights under his belt and has flirted with retirement on several occasions, while prospect Fisher is yet to lose in 12 trips to the ring.

Victory for Allen could reignite his career as he seeks a third successive win after losing to Frazer Clarke in September 2023, however, a loss might bring the curtain down.

Allen has suffered defeats to top contenders like Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz, but upset Lucas Browne, who briefly held the WBA Regular title before failing a drug test.

"I don't want to live a life of regret," Allen told BBC Sport. "I want to know how good I am.

"I fell short at the top level which I don't mind saying. I beat a former champion [in Browne] but he was past his best so I never knew how good I was.

"With Fisher I think the best version of me can beat this fella because he's only a baby."

  14. Fight week lifts off at grand arrivalspublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time

The Saudis do not do things by halves. Tuesday's grand arrivals was the most extravagant fight week event I've attended. Two Boeing 747 plans were wheeled into a new part of the Boulevard attraction park, named 'the runway'.

Boxers were introduced by the host and took a painstakingly long time to walk out of the plane and down the stairs.

It was another sign of Saudi's incredible wealth and growing influence on the sport.

You can watch today's news conference at the top of the this live text page.

We're three minutes beyond the scheduled start time and it's yet to get going but I'll give you a nudge when it begins and you just need to click 'watch live'.

If you've already done that then enjoy the very funky holding music and hopefully it won't be long until we get going.

  16. Cool customer Usyk enjoys limelightpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time

    Kal Sajad

There is no second guessing who the champion is. Usyk has been the star attraction this week, a man in demand. I even caught a former world champion fanboying over the Ukrainian when they crossed paths.

Usyk – even by his own standards – has been so relaxed this week. He was happy to answer any questions posed to him at Monday's media day and was joking around with reporters and his huge entourage.

  17. Trendsetter Usykpublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time

Oleksandr Usyk is one of the greatest fighters on the planet and he might also be one of the best dressed too.

Usyk fully committed to his character - resembling Agent 47 from the Hitman video game series - at the news conference in May...

Earlier this year, Tyson Fury's dad Fury dominated the headlines by appearing to headbutt a member of Oleksandr Usyk's team on the Monday of fight week. John Fury was also in Fury's corner on fight night and faced criticism after his instructions drowned out the voice of trainer SugarHill Steward.

We have heard that Fury Sr won't be in his son's corner this time. In fact, I am yet to see him this week. He's either keeping a low profile or is hasn't arrived in the Kingdom.

  19. 🚨 10 minute warning 🚨published at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time

    Usyk v Fury 2

I should probably keep you in the loop as to what we're expecting this afternoon.

Today's news conference is scheduled for 16:00 GMT - that's in 10 minutes if the headline didn't grab your attention enough.

Of course, timings can always shift, so let's just see.

We're expecting Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Moses Itauma, Demsey McKean along with promoters and managers.

  20. 'Powerful fella'published at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time

Ronnie O'Sullivan licks his lipsImage source, Getty Images

Boxing cards of this magnitude tend to draw the big names from across the world of sport, so it's no surprise to see one of the greatest ever snooker players in the mix this week.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, a seven-time world champion, has been soaking up the events during fight week as anticipation builds towards Saturday

And of course, it would be a waste of a question if we didn't ask O'Sullivan which other snooker player would he like to face in a boxing match, right?

"If I was going to take on anyone, I might as well take on the strongest out of all of them," O'Sullivan said.
